Public intoxication is a criminal offense in Louisiana defined in Louisiana Revised Statute 14:101. It is a misdemeanor offense to be in a public place under the influence of alcohol or a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) to the degree that you are a danger to yourself or others, or to the point where you are unable to care for your own safety.

A first offense for public intoxication in Louisiana is punishable by a fine of up to $500 and up to six months in jail. Subsequent offenses can result in harsher penalties, including increased fines and jail time.
